Meet Mark Gill

Meet EMA Advisory Board member, Mark Gill. We sat down with Mark to get to know a bit more about our Advisory Board member who is currently the Global Operations Manager for FIRST supporting Goldman Sachs. Get to know more about him below:

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’ve been in the events industry for 25 years and have spent that time working with Pharmaceutical, Consumer Electronics, Aerospace & Financial clients.  My current role oversees the delivery of events across the EMEA and APAC regions, managing a team of over 40 event professionals and over 300 events a year.  I’m passionate about helping colleagues to move along their career path.  I’ve had some fantastic opportunities and like to support others in their journey. 

Where/how did your journey start in the events world?

My late father used to be an event manager for a UK car manufacturer and so my childhood was spent around car launches and driving events in the 80’s and 90’s.  I was fascinated from a young age and the rest is history!

What made you want to get involved in EMA?

I’ve had such an amazing career to date and I’m passionate about giving something back and helping people develop their career.  EMA has always been targeted at Corporate planners: it’s a space to meet and share ideas and thoughts with other Corporate planners in a closed environment.

What event trend do you think will be most impactful to event planners?

I think there are 2 that are particularly relevant to my day to day.  Firstly the focus on cost savings and efficiencies.  We’re all being tasked to deliver excellence for clients and at the same time securing value for money.  The art of negotiation is more important than ever!

Secondly the move to ESG.  This is becoming more and more important every day and it’s something that planners and the corporate world cannot shy away from.  I’d recommend that everyone finds out more about this, what your company’s policy is around this and how you can be more aware of this with the events you deliver. 

How do you relax/what do you do for fun?

I’m fixated on tracking my steps.  I have to hit 10,000 a day and I’m grumpy if I don’t. 

Besides that I love a Body Combat and Body Attack class.  It’s a great way to relieve stress (or clear the hangover!)
